We decided it would be fun to take the kids on the metra into the city. Plus, we wanted to go on a day when there wouldn't be too many people so we could make sure it was manageable with 4 little munchkins. The kids were very excited to ride the train...especially to see it go underground.
It was interesting after we got off of the train. The boys had to go potty and trying to find one in the city on a Sunday was quite the dilemma. We stopped in at a Dunkin' Donuts to get a little treat, thinking they would have one. It was in a large shopping center so we found the restrooms...but they were locked! We had to go over to Barnes and Noble and give them my drivers license to get the key to the restroom. Needless to say, it is a much different scenario from when we used to walk around Manhattan with Mason as a tiny baby. There is so much more to think/worry about with the kiddos. But, we made it and had a lot of fun. We will have to do it again on a sunny day and decided we will need to do the city pass and see the sights.
We walked over to Millennium Park and checked out the Art Institute of Chicago. Mason really wants to come back and go there. But, the rain was pouring so hard and tummies were hungry, so we found a Neighborhood Bakery and had some dinner.
On our way back to the subway, we stopped by the Sears Tower. The visibility was poor up on the sky deck, so that, too, we'll have to come back and do.
We decided to head back early so we wouldn't be riding the train in the dark. The boys made me so nervous on the train platform and I told Dan I'm turning into a nervous pot like my grandma was! Luckily, we made it back to our car with no problems. All in all, it was a great day (although we could have done without the rain) and we are excited to do it again on a sunny day when we can see so much more!
We definitely wore this little guy out :)

Those train platforms are nerve wracking! I always stress out when we ride into DC with the kids.
